What to Expect

I work from the assumption that I am not the expert, you are. My role will be to provide safe boundaries within which we can explore your history, notice patterns, process emotions, and bolster the strengths you already have.

I tend to encourage you to share your current emotions, conflicts and challenges (e.g. what came up between sessions) and use these as a jumping off point to explore underlying patterns or sore points in your life.

My approach is eclectic and grounded in relational psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness and self-compassion principles, and trauma-informed care. I draw from cognitive behavioural therapy, parts work (IFS) and emotion-focused therapy when appropriate.

I find that people get the most out of therapy when they take an active process in it, including outside the therapy hour. I also think it is important to remember that therapy doesn’t always feel good or relaxing. It can feel intense and vulnerable, especially at first (I know this first-hand as a client too!) so remember this is normal. The rewards of gaining insight and validation can be incredibly freeing and worth the efforts.

Sessions are 50 mins and we can meet at a frequency that works for you. I am happy to work in a short-term, goal-oriented way, or in a longer-term supportive relationship.
